VHAI Team participation at the 15th World Conference on Tobacco or Health
Four members from VHAI participated in the 15th WCTOH 2012 held at Singapore from 20-24 March 2012. The theme was Towards a Tobacco free World: Planning Globally, Acting Locally.

Held at the Suntec Convention Hall, the conference offered a unique opportunity to meet international and national experts, public health specialists and tobacco control advocates on one platform. The programme was rich in content and presentation with plenaries, symposiums, panel discussions, oral and poster presentations, workshops and special events.

The keynote address on the first day was given by Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General, WHO and the opening address by Ang Hak Seng, CEO, Singapore Health Promotion Board. The other important sessions over the 5 days covered tobacco control focus areas comprehensively with discussions on FCTC, industry tactics, ad bans, tobacco taxation, smoke free, pack warnings, smokeless tobacco, rights-based approach, bidis and child labour, illicit trade, social media, poverty and tobacco, and many more.

The conference was extremely well-organized with all available facilities like a cooperative staff, well defined presentation areas, meeting booths, internet access, medical facilities, speaker’s preview rooms, etc. The highlights of the event were the Bloomberg Awards, the Luther Terry Awards and the American Cancer Society Dinner Lecture.
