<b>Voluntary Health Association of Sikkim</b><br><br>The Voluntary Health Association of Sikkim’s (VHAS) head office building at Tadong was inaugurated by His Excellency, the Governor of Sikkim, Shri V. Rama Rao. During his inaugural speech, he requested the VHAS towards working jointly with the State Government in enabling the down trodden section of Sikkim to avail the optimum medical care and health education in their respective areas of settlement. While addressing the assemblage voiced the ardent demands of local Panchayats in regards to establishment of primary health centres even in the remotest of hamlets across the state. Speaking on the context of `Health is Wealth’, he also supported the vision of VHAS with regard to establishment of States Medical Council in Sikkim followed by its representation in the Medical Council of India.<br><br>Today, VHAS is one of the largest NGO in Sikkim with more than 20 core staffs, 23 project staff and more than 300 members from 40 affiliated NGOs in the State. Taking into consideration, the peoples support and participation, the VHAS board functions as a think tank and holds quarterly meetings. The thoughts and ideas generated in the board meeting are transmitted and executed by the management group for the benefit of people at large. Monitoring, auditing and feedback systems are the basic entities of VHAS.<br><br>The enthusiastic members of VHAS, Dr. H. Lepcha, Dr. B. B. Rai, Paul Karna Rai, N. Singh, Sachin Dewan and others were also felicitated with letters of appreciation from the Governor of Sikkim.
