Manipur Voluntary Health Association

The second year of the CORE PROGRAMME (April 2005 to March 2006) has been implemented successfully with the support of ICCO, the Netherlands. The achievement of the project under report are given below :-
Coverage of un-reached areas like Ukhrul and Tamenglong districts
More emphasis given to minority Muslim population concentrated
Continuation and strengthening of District Resource Centers

The Government of Manipur recognizing the importance of the programme undertaken by MVHA started extending their co-operation with providing accommodation of training courses, utilising the services of the trainees of MVHA and also providing kits and medicines for the community health workers of MVHA. Even in one occasion, during the closing function of the TBA/Dais training in Ukhhrul a Govt. Officer belonging to Tankhul Community expressed his satisfaction about the programme saying “The Meities has broken the barrier between Tangkhul and Meities”.

Regarding Mobile VCCTC, in the remote rural and hilly areas people have strong stigma and discrimination against those affected and infected by HIV/AIDS. The functioning of our mobile VCCTC enables us to reduce fear psychosis of high-risk groups to a great extent through self awareness. Since, the functioning of mobile VCCTC people have come out from their solitary confinement out of the fear of stigma and discrimination. Even people from remote corner use to come forward for voluntary testing along with their family members to the testing spot. This is a good indicator of success of this programme and sign of people’s defines of social stigma and discrimination. So far we are able to cover a few risk pocket areas in four districts among the nine districts of Manipur. However, we are trying to cover all risk prone areas throughout the state in the coming years. The Manipur State AIDS Control Society has provided all the testing materials and other required medicines.

All credits for the achievements made by MVHA goes to the ICCO, the Netherlands for providing opportunities and supports. The various other trainings/workshops were conducted for its member organizations and project partners.
