<b>Voluntary Health Association of Karnataka (VHAK)</b><br><br>
The AGBM of VHAK was held on 31st July 2005 at the Conference Hall, National Tuberculosis Institute, Bangalore. Before the AGBM, a two day workshop was also organised on revised National Tuberculosis Control program (in collaboration with State T.B. Centre and WHO) and on Telemedicine & Rural Health for the member organisations of VHAK.<br><br>VHAK has fostered its relations and links with Governmental & built up a good rapport with other federations and voluntary organizations through its programmes. VHAK is represented at various committees of the State Health Department. The Mother NGO programme on RCH was sanctioned by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.<br><br>VHAK had a thorough dialogue with the member organization, which had offered to function as a regional center. The discussions on the subject were held on 4th September 2005 at Janahitha office Raichur to workout the mechanics and modalities of such an endeavor.<br><br>Breast feeding week was celebrated by VHAK in collaboration with Rotary Club of Indiranagar and IPP Health Centre of Murphy town on 6th August 2005. Ms.T.Neerajakshi spoke on the importance of Breast feeding to 40 mothers. The significant feature was 80 percent of the participants were lactating mothers.<br><br>The Executive Secretary represented VHAK in several meetings and taken sessions on health issues in various programmes organized by the other partners during the year.<br><br>VHAK in collaboration with REDS, Shivagangai, Tamilnadu had coordinated two workshop cum trainings on “Pre-conception and prenatal diagnostic techniques Act” in some of the states of North India for the Member Institutions of respective states. The first program was organized at Ranchi from 5th to 7th December 2005 at St.Xavier Institute by VHA of Jharkhand. Another programme was organized by Bihar VHA and U. P. VHA. In all these programmes, Executive Secretary was the Resource Person during some of the sessions and facilitated the group discussions.<br><br>VHAK in collaboration with Rotary Club of Indiranagar organized and conducted “Adolescence Education” program for 8th, 9th & 10th Standard students on 13th January, 25 & 28th February 2006. In all 162 students participated in the programs. In continuation to this, they have also organized awareness programme for women’s group on 27th January 2006.<br><br>VHAK in collaboration with KROSS, Bangalore conducted a three-day training program (Health for Non-health) for the supervisors and staff of organization for the Development of people, Mysore in their training hall from 17th to 19th January 2006. Nearly 42 participants underwent the training program.<br><br>VHAK with the financial support by Canara Bank, Majestic branch, organized and conducted Adolescence Education program in Sir Isaac Newton High School, Cottonpet on 17 & 18th February 2006. Students of 8th & 9th standard totaling 199 participated in the program. Ms.T.Neerajakshi & Dr.S.M.Subramanya Setty were the resource persons.<br><br>VHAK is presently functioning as the Mother NGO for two districts i.e. Chamarajanagar and Mysore district. The initial process of identifying the field NGOs was done through the advertisement released in the local Newspapers to serve in under-served and un-served areas as furnished by the District Health & Family Welfare Offices of both the districts. Through desk review the NGOs were short-listed. To access the capability of the NGOs to function as field NGOs, pre-appraisal visits were undertaken. Based on the appraisal the NGOs were placed for approval in the District RCH NGO committee. This process is completed in Chamarajanagar district and the same is pending for Mysore district as the District RCH NGO committee is not yet formed.<br><br>VHAK are continuously driven by the desire to excel over past performance and expand our horizons. In this direction our exploration program on Adolescent Education in going on in full throttle with the help and co-operation of Rotary Club of Indiranagar and Canara Bank and the signs are very encouraging.
