Budgam Declared First Smoke Free District In Jammu & Kashmir |
VHAI’s PAT & APPLE phase III project with 5 states towards Smoke Free Districts, Budgam was the first district to be declared ‘Smoke Free’ by the District Administration, Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
The declaration of “Smoke Free Budgam” District was done on the occasion of Republic Day on 26th January, 2012, wherein Honourable Minister for Agriculture, Shri Ghulab Hassan Mir hoisted the National Flag and declared “Budgam District as Smoke Free”. Three senior representatives from VHAI - Ms Bhavna B Mukhopadhyay, Dr B B Rai and Ms Itishree Kanungo have been invited to attend the National Health Assembly from 2nd - 4th February 2012 at the United Nations Conference Center, Bangkok. The National Health Assembly Organizing Committee is organizing this Fourth National Health Assembly (NHA 2011) which is one of the mechanisms to mainstream health in all policies at the national level. Dr. Churnrurtai Karnchanachitra, President of National Health Assembly Organization Committee reiterates that there is an extensive participatory process of NHA that allows organizations/networks to propose agenda items, and this enables all partners to feel ownership and join in driving NHA’s resolutions into action at various levels. |
Nine VHAI representatives from national and state levels are participating in the 15th World Conference on Tobacco or Health (WCTOH) 2012. Tobacco control is one of the top priorities in Singapore's public health efforts and this year, it is hosting this premier conference from 20-24 March 2012.
The theme “Towards a Tobacco-Free World: Planning Globally, Acting Locally” recognizes the fact that the world is facing new and unprecedented challenges from the tobacco industry. To effectively enable a tobacco-free world, greater partnerships are needed to think and plan globally, with follow-up action locally.
