Relief phase work continues in 8 villages of Uri Tehsil of Baramullah district, in association with the Relief Commissioner, as Kamalkote area has been adopted by CRPF and other security forces.
The OPD continues to run, providing primary healthcare and free medicines to the community. Apart from medical aid, a series of mental health counselling sessions, play school activities, mock drill sessions on disaster management and adult literacy camps were also started.

In addition to this, VHAI’s relief acitivities included several health camps with senior doctors, construction of 50 earthquake resistant houses for vulnerable women headed families and economically weaker households, construction of a community centre, which will be utilized for common functions and for vocational training classes, reconstruction of the Health Centre building on modern lines with indoor/outdoor/clinical facilities for all types of patients and the formation of 6 Self help groups with a membership of 73 women.

To ensure the people’s participation in the implementation of the programme, Village Development Committees (VDCs) and Project Implementation Committees (PICs) have been constituted in 10 wards of the two villages comprising PRI members and various eminent non-political people. These committees meet once or twice in a month to provide feedback on the project implementation to VHAI project staff.
The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, visited Dani-Sayeedan and Dara-Gutlian, the two, earthquake-affected villages adopted by VHAI during February 2007. He applauded the organization’s efforts towards constructing rows of permanent houses and a community centre. |
