Community Level Action > Other Activities
The government has also entrusted VHAI with the responsibility of imparting training to Panchayat members and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs). Nearly 1000 Panchayat leaders have been trained in community health. Moreover, the ASHA training programme, which has already started, will benefit more than 1300 ASHA workers.

VHAI is also currently implementing its DFID-supported HIV/AIDS prevention and control project in the four circles of Papum Pare district of Arunachal Pradesh. Under the project, nearly 200 CRPF Jawans, 150 PRI members and 300 peer educators have been trained and 180 peer educators are actively involved in project implementation.
Social marketing initiatives on use of condoms, awareness programmes, health education-cum-check-up camps and HIV testing in villages are some of the regular activities conducted under the project. VHAI has conceptualised an audio series on HIV/AIDS, “Zindagi Gale Lagale”, which was broadcasted by All India Radio, Itanagar.

In view of the improvements in the health status of the covered population, the state government is further planning to hand over a few Community Health Centres (CHCs) to VHAI in the near future.
