| Process of Implementation |
The project is implemented by a consortium of 16 civil society organisations led by The Union & World Vision India in 374 districts covering a population of 750 million. The selected districts include more than 200 underperforming districts (with care notification rates of 50/100,000 or less), 82 ‘poor and backward’ districts, difficult areas (like the north-east and Jammu & Kashmir), and 44 predominantly tribal districts. Voluntary Health Association of India with its headquarters in New Delhi is implementing the project in 46 districts of 8 states.
Project activities at the district level are carried out with the support of at least four local NGOs. The implementation is managed by a District Coordinator who will be looking after two districts. The central team comprise of a Project Manager, Asst. Programme Manager and Finance & Admin officer will provide leadership to the project and monitor the implementation at state & district level. All the curative services will be provided by the government system.
The project will undertake under take various advocacy, communication and social mobilisation interventions in order to involve community members and village opinion leaders to ensure a better care seeking approach of symptomatic persons and gradually ward off the locally prevalent myths and misconceptions. It will sensitise, disseminate and promote adoption of the Patients’ Charter for TB Care among all stakeholders in local language. It will develop orient a forum for TB care in each district with the participation of women, cured patients, tribal populations and aged persons.
All the stakeholders comprising of rural healthcare providers and institutions, CBOs, PRIs, community members will be sensitized and involved in the implementation of the programme.
Amongst it deliverables the project aims at improving the cure rate to more than 85 percent at the end of three years and also reducing the average default rate to less than 10 percent. It also targets to improve the new sputum positive case detection rate to more than 70% at the end of three years.
